A new bakery concept is coming to the Pittsburgh area, and the organizers are looking to include local chefs.
It's all happening inside the old Kullman's Bakery in Mt. Oliver, which is being transformed into the kitchen for The Bakery Society of Pittsburgh, to be known as TBSP. It will be the only bakery incubator in the Pittsburgh area.
"We want to create new businesses, and we want them to have the ability to test their ideas, test their products and then get the right training that's necessary to create those businesses and make sure that they're sustainable over time," said Tim Hindes, the chief marketing officer for Economic Development South. Economic Development South is the group behind TBSP.

Bakers in residence at TBSP will go through an 18-month program where they'll perfect their craft with help from a professional chef and learn how to run and market a bakery. Bakers will be able to use the commercial equipment that TBSP is buying for the space and sell their confections in the retail space on Brownsville Road. TBSP is still in the process of buying equipment and getting the kitchen up to code, as well as finding bakers to be a part of their mission. The goal is to open in May 2018.
"I think this is a really innovative idea to create a locally serving business and fill a gap in the community," said Rick Hopkinson, Mt. Oliver's borough manager.
Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic was invited to tour the space during an open house.
"This is a unique project, and it's really something that is getting a lot of attention and energy around the region, and we're pretty excited about that," Hindes said.
