Recurring Megan's Law violator arrested in Pittsburgh's North Side

Michael Taylor

PITTSBURGH — A recurring Megan’s Law violator was apprehended Thursday morning in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood after he attempted to flee from deputies, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office announced in a press release.

Authorities said Michael Taylor, 42, had been wanted numerous times over the last six months for failing to register as a sexual offender.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Taylor was convicted in 1997 and 1998 of multiple charges, including rape, indecent assault without consent of other, aggravated assault, criminal attempt and recklessly endangering another person.  Due to the convictions, Taylor is required to register as a sexual offender for life.

Taylor was wanted for failing to appear for a Feb. 15 hearing regarding his original Megan’s Law case in which he failed to register an address.

Authorities said deputies learned information Thursday morning that Taylor was staying in the 1400 block of Boyle Street in the North Side. A man at the residence greeted deputies, and as they were discussing their reason for visiting, Taylor attempted to flee out a back door, police said.

Without incident, sheriff's deputies immediately took Taylor into custody.

Taylor was taken to the Allegheny County Jail, where he was being held without bond.
