Red Skittles found spilled all over road

DODGE COUNTY, WISCONSIN — A sticky situation emerged on a Wisconsin highway Tuesday night and sheriff's officials are trying to figure out who spilled thousands of Skittles.

Sheriffs took pictures because they knew people would need to see this to believe it-- the road was completely covered in red Skittles candy.

The candy conundrum had sheriff's stumped for a moment, but word got around town about the sweet scenario.

Sheriff Dale Schmidt says a farmer eventually stepped forward to explain it all:  "From what I understand these Skittles were probably rejects from the factory they are given out to farmers because apparently they are good nutrients for cattle."

The farmer said he had picked up his box for his cows the night before and some rain disintegrated the box causing the Skittles to spill out the road.

In the meantime, residents have noticed that the sugar makes for a pretty good deicer on the road and every time a car goes by they get a powerfully sweet smell.

"There's no little "S" on them, but you can definitely smell, it's a distinct Skittles smell," says Schmidt.
