Missing Ohio teens taken into custody after high-speed chase in Texas

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) — The two Belmont County teens who had been missing for a week have been found in Texas after one wrecked his mother's SUV during a high-speed chase late Sunday.

Kylee Taylor, 14, was taken into custody at the scene of the accident on a highway in Wichita Falls, Texas. Matthew Bateman, 14, however, fled from the scene. According to Wichita Falls police, Bateman was found Monday morning after he walked into a local Boys & Girls Club and asked to use the restroom. He was covered in mud. The workers there then locked the bathroom door and called police.

Law officials in North Texas said the two initially were located between 10-11 p.m. Sunday when the license plate of the blue and gold Ford Expedition they were driving came back as stolen. When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, leading police across county lines and into Wichita Falls.

Officials reportedly had to use spike strips, which busted the SUV's tires. Police said Bateman fled the accident scene located near Iowa Park Road and Central Freeway.
