Retired bank executive attacked, robbed in downtown Pittsburgh parking garage

PITTSBURGH — A retired top Pittsburgh bank executive was attacked and robbed during last Thursday's evening rush hour inside the Smithfield and Liberty Garage, Pittsburgh police said.

Authorities said the victim was walking to the elevators after parking his car on the fifth floor when two men grabbed him from behind and put him in a headlock.

While one of the attackers went for his car keys, the other assaulted the victim, hitting him in the head, police said.

Officers said the victim put up a fight, but the men stole his car keys and cellphone. The victim told police that the thieves attempted to steal his car, but ran off down an exit ramp when they couldn’t get it to start.

Pittsburgh police said they’re reviewing surveillance footage from garage cameras in an attempt to identify the attackers.
