Retrial For Sen. Orie Set To Begin In Two Weeks

PITTSBURGH, Pa.,None — A date has been set for jury selection in the retrial of Pennsylvania State Sen. Jane Orie.

The new trial will begin with jury selection on April 26. Appeals to block and delay the retrial were denied by the Superior Court earlier this week.

The new trial is needed because the judge in the case declared a mistrial March 3 during jury deliberations after concluding the defense used forged documents as evidence.

Orie's sister, Janine Orie, is also charged with corruption. She is suspended from her job as an aide to a third sister, state Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin.

The two are accused of using state paid employees to do campaign work for Jane Orie and Melvin.
