Ross Twp. police sent by electric company to restore electricity at home

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Ross Township police officer was sent by an electric company to restore electricity to one of its customers on Thursday.

Nancy, 87, told Channel 11 that Wednesday night and part of Thursday she was in her home without electricity after she missed her payment last month for the first time in 40 years. She lives alone in the home and relies on a walker to get around her home.

Once she paid the bill, her electric was not turned on as she expected. According to Ross Township police, that is when they got a 911 call from Duquesne Light to restore Nancy’s power.

According to Nancy, Duquesne Light officials sent a technician to her house, but he stayed outside and would not go into her home to reset the breaker.

Duquesne Light spokesperson, Ashlee Yingling, sent the following statement to Channel 11 regarding the incident.

"At Duquesne Light, customers are our top priority and we make every effort to provide a high level of customer service.

After a failed attempt for assistance from a local community organization, one of our representatives took steps to ensure the customer's breaker was off so her power could safely be restored. While this is not our normal course of action, thanks to the efforts of our representative the customer's power was restored as quickly and safely as possible."
