School cafeteria worker loses 100 pounds eating school lunches for a year

BAYTOWN, TEXAS — A Texas cafeteria worker may be the best spokesperson for her school's food.

She's managed to lose 100 pounds over the last year, thanks to mostly eating cafeteria food.

Every day with the warmest smile and words of encouragement, Tammy McRae welcomes a waiting line of curious and hungry kids at Carver Elementary.

For 17 years after the birth of her second child, McRae weighed in at 260 pounds.  Today, she's 100 pounds lighter.  She used to eat out a lot, super-sizing fast food meals.

Tammy started taking cues from her own cafeteria menu when school started last year.  For the next 12 months, she ate the school breakfast and lunch every single day and would have dinners that were just a little bit of fruit and yogurt..

By Christmas she was well on her way to shedding the weight and with smarter decisions she started feeling better about herself.  Before she knew it, school was starting back up again and McRae was healthier.  Her recipe for success is a positive attitude, smiling as she serves up meals for her students.
