Several Allegheny County schools investigating bomb threats

PITTSBURGH — Several schools in Allegheny County have been affected after receiving bomb threats Monday and last week.

Pine-Richland School District received a bomb threat regarding Richland Elementary School Monday. Students were taken to Eden Hall Upper Elementary School. Police and K9 units swept the building and issued an all clear. A police officer was stationed outside Richland Elementary overnight. %

Someone called in a bomb threat to the Baldwin Whitehall School District’s Paytner Elementary School Monday. Students were evacuated to Harrison Middle School where parents were able to pick-up their children. Police and the Allegheny County bomb squad swept the building and issued an all clear shortly after.

South Allegheny Middle and High School and North Allegheny Intermediate High School were also affected by bomb threats. NAI’s threat came from a message found in a restroom with the threat issued for Tuesday, May 24.

Students at NAI are not permitted to bring backpacks to school on Tuesday and laptops are only permitted if they have the district-issued sleeve.

Several states across the country have been receiving bomb threats. The FBI and joint terrorism task force are investigating.

An FBI spokesperson released this statement regarding the recent bomb threats in various schools across the country"

"We are aware of recent bomb threats at various schools in different states, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance if needed.  As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety."
