Strong thunderstorms pass through Channel 11 News viewing area

PITTSBURGH — Thunderstorms that produced downpours, hail, lightning and strong wind gusts progressed through the Channel 11 News viewing area early Wednesday evening.

Severe Weather Team 11 Chief Meteorologist Stephen Cropper said that the system passed mostly north of Pittsburgh before exiting the region by moving southeast through the city.

Numerous advisories were issued throughout the day. Stick with WPXI.com to remain updated on the latest severe weather alerts.

Cropper said that potentially damaging winds reportedly knocked over some trees in northern Butler County. Flooding, lightning and hail were separate concerns.
