‘She was a wonderful person': Mother remembers daughter found in garage

PITTSBURGH — A mother is grieving the death of her daughter, who was found in an abandoned Braddock garage shot to death Saturday morning.

India Stewart, 29, was found shot in the head, police said. Investigators later determined that her uncle, Kalvin Stewart, was responsible for her death.

India’s mother is working to keep her daughter’s memory alive with what she wants people to know about India the most.

"Her heart. She had a good heart. That smile, oh wow," Jan Stewart said.

Jan Stewart said India always had a smile on her face and would start conversations with a compliment.

"She'd walk into the room, she wouldn't say, ‘Hi Mom,’ she would say, “Hi beautiful.' That's all she would call me," Jan Stewart said.

India leaves behind four children.

"She loved her children. She was an awesome mom, awesome mom,” Jan Stewart said.

Jan Stewart showed Channel 11’s Aaron Martin her earrings, which were a Christmas gift from her daughter. She said they now serve as a reminder of her wonderful daughter.

"She was a wonderful person. She was the daughter that any woman would wish to have," Jan Stewart said.

The family has started a GoFundMe page to help pay for India's funeral expenses. Anyone wishing to donate can CLICK HERE.
