Shots fired in Carrick in broad daylight; neighbors say violence is spiking

Police are investigating and neighbors are on high alert after shots were fired in broad daylight Monday in Carrick.

The shooting happened on Stewart Street and police took one person away, but no further information was immediately available. A Channel 11 news crew also saw a gun-sniffing dog that investigators brought in to locate the shooters.

Residents said there has been a recent spike in violence in the neighborhood.

Gene Allen was in his front yard on Stewart Street when he said he saw two teens pull guns on each other right next to a Pittsburgh ambulance.

"I mean, it was rapid fire, just ‘bang bang bang’ and then it was over,” Allen said. "I had never seen those kids before."

Allen said he first thought someone was ambushing the EMS crew, but the ambulance was on an unrelated medical call when the shooting happened.

Dana Bard and other neighbors came outside to find police looking for the bullets and the gunmen. Bard and other residents said the street has historically been quiet, but there’s been an uptick in crime over the past few months.
