Snacks, apple juice stolen from Pittsburgh day care after man throws concrete through door

PITTSBURGH — A man is facing charges after police said he threw a piece of concrete through the front door of a day care in Pittsburgh’s Allentown neighborhood, then proceeded to burglarize the business.

The burglary early Monday morning at A Plus Childcare was caught on surveillance video, happening about an hour before children would typically start arriving.

James Stevenson, 52, can be seen in the surveillance video throwing the concrete before reaching through the door’s broken glass.

“He's grabbing up the fishies, apple juice, Halloween candy and Lysol. Then he proceeds to walk down Warrington Avenue like nothing happened,” day care owner James Thomas said. “It's stuff I could have given to you if you were really in need. There was no problem with that.”

No employees or children were inside the day care at the time of the burglary.

Stevenson was arrested about three hours later. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and is charged with burglary.

“After this all happened, he was standing across the street looking at me as if nothing happened,” Thomas said. “I don't know, there's really no words for it. I'm the type of guy who gives. I give more than I receive. I'm not understanding why this would even transpire.”
