Former Pirates Manager To Throw Out First Pitch

Bay Serves As Official All-Star Spokesman

PITTSBURGH —

When the American League takes on the National League Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, two familiar faces will have important roles in the game.

Former Pirates manager Chuck Tanner will throw out the first pitch.

Tanner managed four teams from 1970 to 1988, including the World Series-winning 1979 team.

The New Castle native will also be an honorary coach on Tuesday.

And aside from playing left field and serving as cleanup hitter in the game, Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Jason Bay will also be the official All-Star spokesman.

Bay talked to Channel 11 News at FanFest about what it’s like being voted an All-Star.

“I'm very flattered, I guess, is the word I keep using,” said Bay. “I'm just looking forward to tipping my cap and thanking everybody tonight.”
