Greensburg Salem Beats Montour

Greensburg Salem Moves To Next Playoff Round In High School Hoops

GREENSBURG, Pa. —

Greensburg Salem has had a lot of heartbreak in the WPIAL basketball playoffs the last few years, but this year, it's another story.

Greensburg Salem beat Montour in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs Thursday February 14.

Two seasons ago, Greensburg Salem lost a first round WPIAL basketball playoff game, and last year, Greensburg Salem entered the WPIAL playoffs as the number one seed in Triple A only to be upset by West Allegheny in the first round.

This year, 20 and 5 Greensburg Salem was determined to change history and it did just that.

Greensburg Salem's junior sensation Chris Klimcheck led the way with 25 points in a game that Greensburg Salem led from start to finish. Montour was only down by 5 points at the half.

Montour features football superstar Christian Wilson, who's one of the most physically dominating players in the WPIAL.

Wilson finished with 16 points and Montour's E.J. "Big Money" Banks chipped in 11.

But Greensburg Salem was almost flawless at the free throw line with senior Aaron Allen hitting 9 of 10 clutch free throws and finishing with 13 points.

Greensburg's Salem's sophomore phenom Jake Matthews added 12 points.

The key to the game was a 6-0 run that Greensburg Salem went on to start the second half that opened up an 11 point Greensburg Salem lead.

Greensburg Salem moves to the next round to face Highlands.
