Jeff Reed Signs 1-Year Franchise Offer

PITTSBURGH —

Pittsburgh Steelers' kicker Jeff Reed signed his one-year franchise tender offer, the team announced Tuesday.

Reed will enter his ninth year with the Steelers after originally being signed as a free agent on Nov. 20, 2002.

He ranks first on the team's all-time list for career field goal percentage (.833), having connected on 189-of-227 field goal attempts.

Reed ranks second on the team's all-time scoring list with 855 career points and his 189 field goals are second in team history.

Several weeks ago, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct charges against Reed, stemming from a scuffle with police outside a bar near Heinz Field, were dropped.

Earlier this year, a judge threw out charges of simple assault and resisting arrest against Reed related to the Oct. 18 incident after the Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns 27-14.

Reed completed 40 hours of community service with the Salvation Army, and the remaining charges were dropped.
