LATROBE, Pa. —
The Steelers quarterback had been concerned about how the fans would react to him, after a troubled off-season. Those concerns were quickly alleviated, and Roethlisberger got down to football.
Roethlisberger took snaps only with the starters, alternating with Byron Leftwich, during the Pittsburgh Steelers' first practices of training camp.

Roethlisberger, who will be suspended for at least the first four games of the season, ran the opening series of plays with the starting unit during a morning practice that was closed to the public. Leftwich then ran some plays with the starters and others with backups.
Coach Mike Tomlin said Leftwich would get the majority of the training camp time with the starters, followed by Dennis Dixon, as the Steelers prepare for the start of the season.
Roethlisberger is barred from team activities during his suspension, so the only practice time he will get until October will occur during camp.
