Steelers Beat Panthers 19-16

The Pittsburgh Steelers finished their game preparation Thursday night with a pre-season matchup at Heinz Field against the Carolina Panthers.

In the first quarter, after the Steelers offense couldn't move the ball, the Panthers got great field position. They drove into Steelers territory but could only manage a field goal to make it 3-0.

Carey Davis capped a 77 yard drive on the next position with a 6-yard run to give the Steelers a 7-3 lead.

After a Bryant McFadden interception, the Steelers drove for another field goal to take a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, another Jeff Reed field goal. This one was from 49 yards out to give the black and gold a 13-3 lead.

The Panthers responded with a field goal of their own to make it 13-6 at the half.

Jeff Reed got some more work in the 3rd quarter, hitting a 41-yard field goal to put the Steelers up by 10.

The Panthers chipped away at the lead, tying it on a late touchdown in the fourth quarter.

But Dennis Dixon had enough time to drive the team into field goal range. Jeff Reed hit the 43-yard field goal to win the game 19-16.
