Surveillance cameras credited for quick arrest of theft suspect, officials say

PITCAIRN, Pa. — A suspected thief is behind bars and his every move captured on camera in Pitcairn, officials say.

Timothy Divittorio is accused of stealing from Taza Market in Pitcairn Saturday.  Police say he fled from the store and ran away fast, but he didn't get away for long, thanks to surveillance cameras in town.

The Pitcairn police Chief Scott Farally tells Channel 11 there are 15 active cameras covering the entire borough.

Pitcairn is the only borough in the county to own and operate a high-tech system.  The cameras can be moved from location to location and be livestreamed by officers on patrol.

Farally says the cameras have been successful in solving crimes like the retail theft at Taza Market Saturday.  Block to block cameras captured Divittorio, leading police to a hideout, where he was arrested, the chief says.

“We catch your every move we track your every move in the borough of Pitcairn, there's probably no place you can go without being tracked somewhere somehow,” Farally says.

The chief tells Channel 11 they plan to add even more cameras in the borough.
