Surveillance video leads to arrest of man in McKnight Road bank robbery

PITTSBURGH — A man accused of robbing a bank Thursday on McKnight Road was arrested Friday morning after surveillance video allowed officers to identify him, Ross Township police said.

Officers were called to the Northwest Bank on McKnight Road just before 4 p.m. Thursday for a reported robbery.

Police said the alleged robber was seen leaving the bank on foot, wearing dark clothing and a floppy fisherman’s hat and carrying a red bag. Officers said no one was inside the bank at the time of the robbery and no weapon was used.

Surveillance video indicated that the man went to a nearby business where further video of him was found, in which he was not wearing the hat and not covering his face. Ross Township police said one of their officers, who had had past contact with the man, identified him as Brian Leach.

“We were able to go to his apartment and find some items we believe were involved in the robbery and also confirm that the photograph of him from the bank surveillance video is this individual,” Ross Township police Detective Brian Kohlhepp said.

Authorities said Pittsburgh police helped apprehend Leach, who was spotted in the city’s North Side on Friday morning.

Leach was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and faces two robbery charges.
