Suspect, family await verdict in shooting that killed unborn child

PITTSBURGH — It’s been an emotional number of days for Deanna Weems as she awaits the jury’s decision in the case against the teen accused of killing her unborn grandson.

Weems’ daughter, 17-year-old DaRae Delgado was allegedly shot by 15-year-old Eric Taylor, who shot her three times during the spring of 2014 after she unknowingly opened the front door of the family’s Duquesne home to Taylor.

“My grandson’s autopsy pictures got to me more than anything,” Williams said. “That made me sick to my stomach.”

The jury now must decipher testimony from several of the defendant’s neighborhood friends who turned reluctant witnesses who said although they didn’t see the actual shooting, Taylor was at the scene and had a gun.

In his closing, Taylor’s defense attorney challenged the credibility of the State’s three witnesses, whom served time in jail.
