Suspect shot, killed during standoff in Beaver Co.

OHIOVILLE, Pa. — A police standoff that began Thursday night in Beaver County ended more than nine hours later, according to police.

Authorities confirm the suspect, 37-year-old Ryan Shorak, was shot and killed by police Friday morning.

The incident began at about 9:30 p.m. with a call to police in Ohioville about a domestic incident at a home on Wildwood Road.

Authorities said a man who had been drinking alcohol threatened his wife and was armed with an AK-47 and 50 caliber pistol. She left the home, but when police arrived the man fired at least ten shots at officers with a semi-automatic rifle.

Shorak hit the windshield of a Midland police vehicle, pinning four officers, including Ohioville Police Chief Mark Smilek, behind the cruiser.

“He was belligerent. He was making threats the whole time, threatened to kill the officers,” said Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier.

Police returned fire at about 11:30 p.m., and it was unknown at that time whether the man was wounded.

No officers were hurt.

"They kept asking, please come out of the house, put your hands up, put down your guns,” neighbor Daniel Hatt said.

Channel 11's Steven Fisher reported that police re-established contact with Shorak Friday morning and he continued to make threats.

Authorities told Fisher the standoff ended at about 7 a.m. when the SWAT team shot Shorak three times.

“The gentleman (Shorak) was on the phone threatening the officers. He had a firearm in his hand, and a state police officer fired, and killed the suspect,” said Lozier.
