Suspected bank robber leads police on chase, hides in storm pipe

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — A suspected back robber led police on a quarter-mile chase before going down a steep slope to hide in a storm pipe in Monroeville, police said.

Police said the accused robber is 47 years old and from East Pittsburgh. His name has not been released but police said they were able to find him due to good descriptions from witnesses.

Officials said he robbed S&T Bank on Broadway Avenue before hiding in the storm pipe.

“These are large drainage pipes that take the water runoff. It's actually called Dirty Camp Run,” Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole said.

The robber’s plan was to hide in the pipe long enough to make his way to a getaway car, police said.
