Target 11 Tests The Nuwave Oven

PITTSBURGH,None — Target 11 consumer reporter Robin Taylor put a popular new oven to the test. The Nuwave oven promises to cut cooking times in half while cutting back on energy costs.

The top-selling oven leads the list of "As Seen On TV" products and promises to broil, roast, grill, bake and barbecue foods.

Channel 11 gave the oven to a local stay-at-home mother of two to see how well it worked for her. Leslie Krochta from Normalville said dinner time is not always easy for her.

"Normally it takes me forever to get dinner done, chasing her around the house, chasing him. Trying to get dinner done, it's a little difficult," said Krochta.

Krotcha was asked to prepare a few recipes with the oven. She made pork chops, potatoes au gratin, baked apples and pot roast. Krochta said she was surprised with the results.

"Well some of the things I've bought don't work, and this has literally blown me out of the water," said Krochta. "I didn't think it would work, and it works."

Krotcha said all of the recipes she tried were delicious and she said the cleanup was easy. Overall Krotcha gave the Nuwave Oven an "A."

Taylor made her own recipe using the Nuwave Oven and used Channel 11 producers as the taste tasters. Using both the Nuwave and a conventional oven, Taylor made rosemary chicken to see which of the two methods cooked the food faster and which tasted better.

The chicken made in the Nuwave oven took 50 minutes and the chicken in the conventional oven took an hour and a half.

Channel 11 producer Johnny Green said he could not tell the difference between the two.

"I can't. I'm stumped. They both taste the same to me," said Greene.

"They're both savory. They're both delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to eat either one," said Channel 11 executive producer Deb Gaita. "I think the one on the right is a little bit more moist."

The chicken Gaita choose as her favorite was made in the Nuwave Oven. Taylor said overall, the chicken cooked by the Nuwave was juicier and only took half as much time as the conventional oven.

A basic Nuwave Oven sells for about $99.
