Teen accused of sexually assaulting unconscious woman at party charged as adult

FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. — A Fayette County teen is being charged as an adult in connection with the sexual assault of an unconscious woman at a house party, police said Tuesday.

George Bowman III, now 18, was 17 years old at the time of the alleged incident.

Investigators said the woman was found unconscious, half-naked and half hanging off of a couch in the basement of a Nicholson Township, where a party was being held. Her relatives told police she passed out on the couch after throwing up from drinking, and she was later discovered with her pants and underwear around her ankles.

According to the criminal complaint, the relative who found the woman pulled up her clothing and put her back on the couch, but the woman still didn't wake up. The relative said she confronted Bowman, whose belt and pants were undone with his zipper down.

The complaint said the relative asked him what happened, and Bowman replied, “What?” The relative said she then yelled at him to leave the home.

The woman’s relatives feared she had been raped and called an ambulance, the complaint said. Doctors at Uniontown Hospital examined the woman and performed a rape kit. The results recently came back, with a positive match to Bowman’s DNA, police said.

State troopers arrested Bowman, who faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the felony sexual assault charge.

As of Tuesday, Bowman, who does not have a criminal history, was placed on an ankle monitor.
