NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. - A teenager was critically hurt in a shooting near a playground in North Versailles Sunday night.
Investigators said the incident happened just before 6 p.m. outside the Cliffview Apartments, on Ice Plant Hill Road.
According to police, the 17-year-old victim was leaving an apartment when the gunman approached him.
Two young girls at the playground said the shooter came out of nearby bushes and began firing.
“The black dude was following him, and all we saw was him pull out the gun and just go ‘boom, boom, boom’ kept shooting at him and just kept running,” one of the girls told Channel 11 News.
“We’ve had little fights and stuff like that, but this right here, it was the first time,” said a neighbor. “It’s time to stop the senseless violence.”
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he’s listed in critical condition.
Police said the gunman’s shirt was found near the playground and surveillance video caught him running from the scene. Officers said those two pieces of evidence led to an arrest.
The names of those involved have not been released.
