Teen shot in stomach in Homestead; 15-year-old charged

HOMESTEAD, Pa. — A 15-year-old boy was charged Friday night in connection with the shooting of another teenager in Homestead, police said.

Investigators confirmed police, fire and emergency crews were called around 5:15 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 1400 block of Mifflin Street.

Police said a 15-year-old was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach and was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

"I'm being told the caliber was a 45 caliber shell casing they recovered. So yeah, it's disheartening,” Homestead Police Chief Jeff DeSimone.

Authorities said Carter Hodges, 15, was arrested in connection with the shooting and charged as an adult with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and a weapon violation.

Hodges was arrested just a few blocks away on Margaret Street.

"K9 led us right to the house where we ended up arresting a suspect,” DeSimone said.

Hodges was lodged in the Allegheny County Jail Friday night to await arraignment on the charges.
