Threats made against Penn Hills school board member, superintendent under investigation

PENN HILLS, Pa. — Penn Hills police told Channel 11 News on Monday that they’re investigating a threat made against the Penn Hills School district superintendent and a school board member.

Authorities said a note was addressed to Superintendent Dr. Nancy Hines and School Board President Denise Graham-Shealey, threatening to kill the two women. A drawing included in the envelope showed Graham-Shealey with a red bulls-eye on her forehead.%

Police said the note mentioned Monday night’s previously scheduled town hall meeting, saying, “See you both Monday, I hope to put a bullet in your eye.”

Both Hines and Graham-Shealy were in attendance at Monday night’s meeting along with an increased law enforcement presence.

Officers and a K-9 unit were on hand as each person went through metal detectors before stepping foot into the meeting.

The meeting and threat come after the state auditor general found that the district was nearly $170 million in debt.

While police continue to investigate the origin of the handwritten letter, school officials said they will not let this discourage them from doing the work they're here to do.

“It's unsettling, but I can't be paralyzed by it. You know, I have a job to do right now and that is to keep focused on this district,” Graham-Shealy said.
