Toddler injured when someone throws object at car, shatters windshield

A McKeesport toddler is recovering after someone threw an object at the car he was riding in, shattering the windshield and causing glass to become embedded in his head.

The boy’s mother, Rachel Bowman, was driving at the intersection of Versailles and Freemont avenues on Saturday when she heard a loud bang and her window shattered.

“I honestly thought it was a gunshot. I just drove straight to the hospital,” Bowman said. “My son was covered in shattered glass and he wasn’t crying and moving – nothing.”

Bowman took her son, 23-month-old Noah to McKeesport Hospital and called her mother. While on the way to the hospital, Bowman’s mother’s car was also hit with an object, which she believes was a piece of concrete or large rock.

The two women said McKeesport police told them they think kids were throwing bricks at the intersection.

Fortunately, Noah suffered only minor scratches and cuts to his head. As for Bowman, a single mother of two, she is left paying several hundred dollars to get her car window fixed.

To those responsible, Bowman said, “It’s no cool. You could have taken someone’s life.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
