16-year-old charged as adult in connection with BB gun shooting that left child without eye

A 16-year-old is charged as an adult for allegedly shooting a boy with a BB gun, causing the boy to lose his eye.

Darnell Dennison, 16, is facing charges as an adult after police say he intentionally pointed an air-powered BB gun and propelled a BB into the left eye of 13-year-old Jayden McNab, causing him to lose it.

Dennison was arraigned by video Thursday morning from the juvenile detention center and is being charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

According to a criminal complaint, McNab told police his friends knocked on the door of his Jeannette home.  McNab said he sand three boys were standing on the front porch when police said a car pulled up with Dennison inside.

When McNab looked back, he says Dennison had the BB gun with a laser on top, pointed in his direction, and fired. Ultimately, McNab’s left eye had to be removed.

Channel 11 went to the Stella Street home where Dennison says he lived.  A woman who answered the door says Dennison only lived at the home though the school year and was related to her son, and only lived there during the school year.

McNab’s mother says her son has a positive and resilient attitude, and she is satisfied there’s been an arrest in the case.
