100 pounds of marijuana found in car parked at Westmoreland Co. hotel

PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A package meant to be delivered to Westmoreland County was intercepted by Pennsylvania State Police in New Stanton outside a popular hotel.

Inside the boxes, were 100 pounds of marijuana compressed in size, to be shipped.

"Not just around Pennsylvania, this is an investigation that encompasses lots of states, we believe we were able to intercept the largest marijuana bust," said Trooper Steve Limani with Pennsylvania State Police Greensburg post.

The driver was arrested and accused of delivering it.

He was identified as Martin Olson of San Diego County, California.

Troopers say they had knowledge he was going to meet up with a group in the parking lot of the Marriott Springfield Inn.

"They shrink wrap it so tightly down that they're able to package it and move it and we believe this stuff was shipped across the country and most likely some type of service was used like Fed Ex, UPS and shipped here," Limani said.

The bust is worth about $500,000 on the street and police say while they're still cracking down on heroin and other drugs, marijuana is still an illegal drug that could lead to bigger problems.

"Somebody's making money off this and distributing it to a lot of times our youth and transitioning them from marijuana to pain pills to cocaine to heroin," Limani said.

Olson has bailed out of jail.
