MONROEVILLE, Pa. — Twenty-five new cameras installed throughout Monroeville are helping police keep an eye out for crime in the area.
“We've told the public on several different occasions that if you come here to commit a crime, you will be seen, you will be caught. And certainly that has become the case,” Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala said.
Since Wednesday alone, the cameras have assisted police in identifying a suspect in a double shooting in Pitcairn.

“We were able to place the getaway vehicle after we did some detective work and be able to trace where it left and how it left our community,” Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole said. “We were skeptical a little bit at first, and what I've seen here in the past, literally the past couple months, has been something way above my expectations.”
In addition to Monroeville, police in Penn Township, White Oak, McKeesport and Turtle Creek will benefit from the cameras, which will allow the departments to work together to keep their communities safe.
“This won't work unless it's a team effort. I think it's a partnership, and that's critical,” Rep. Joe Markosek said.
