4-month-old baby hospitalized with bleeding to brain, other injuries; father arrested

A father is in jail, accused of shaking his baby so violently the infant's brain started to bleed.

The 4-month-old baby boy is at UPMC Children's Hospital being treated for severe injuries.

Police were called to the Morado Dwellings Housing Complex in Beaver Falls on Nov. 21 for a child having seizures.

But when police questioned the father, John Crawford, 24, admitted he had thrown and shaken the infant because he wouldn't stop crying.

TRENDING NOW:

Crawford told police he was alone with the baby and threw him on the couch when he was "crying uncontrollably." The crying, he said, caused the father to "shake him in frustration."

The baby boy suffered bleeding and bruising to the brain and a fractured leg.

He also had seven healing rib fractures, which Crawford claims were from hugging him too tightly.

Crawford was not able to post a $200,000 bond and is being held in the Beaver County Jail.
