Accused cop-killer wants attorney of man found not guilty in another officer's death

GREENSBURG, Pa. — The man accused in the death of New Kensington police officer Brian Shaw faced a judge Tuesday.

Channel 11 has exclusive video of Rahmael Holt walking into the Westmoreland County Courthouse for his formal arraignment.

Holt stared straight ahead as officers escorted him into the courthouse.

Holt is charged with first-degree murder and the district attorney is seeking the death penalty.

Police say Holt shot and killed Officer Shaw in November during a traffic stop. Officers searched for Holt for several days before finally arresting him.

During Holt’s formal arraignment, Channel 11 learned that he does not have an attorney yet.

The Westmoreland County District Attorney said that Holt told the judge he wanted defense attorney Marc Daffner to represent him.

On Friday, Daffner’s Client, Ray Shetler, was acquitted in the shooting death of St. Clair Township police Officer Lloyd Reed.

The judge told Holt during the hearing that she doesn’t want this to process to drag on and he should be applying for a public defender.

Holt has a status hearing scheduled for March.
