Antonio Brown talks Rooney, Bell, Bryant and giving back

BETHEL PARK, Pa. — Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown shared his thoughts with WPXI Sunday, from Dan Rooney to Le’Veon Bell, as he spoke at the “Power of Bowser Buick GMC Antonio Brown Live Your Vision Foundation Football ProCamp” in Bethel Park.

Brown interacted with over 200 kids from grades one through eight during the camp on Sunday afternoon.  He took photos with all of them, and even played quarterback for some of the participants.

Brown said it’s important to give back, “…someone like myself to look up to ask questions, to be around, to just communicate with,” said Brown, “to give that encouragement and positivity; anything you want to do in life you can achieve it.”

Brown will be heading to camp with a new contract extension, and with another chance to capture the one honor that has eluded him so far, a Super Bowl. At 29-years-old, that is the first thing on his mind.

Brown believes the Steelers have the pieces to make that championship run happen, including a returning Martavis Bryant.

“We need to have a bunch of guys on the same page,” Brown said. “It can't be one guy, it’s gotta be every guy in the helmet, every person in the community, everyone in the organization, it takes everyone to win. It's not about individual. You have to have a special team to do something special.”

One of those special players is Le’Veon Bell. Bell could be a camp holdout because he hasn’t signed his franchise tag.

“I was talking to (Bell) last night for about two hours and we need him. I need him if we're gonna do what we desire to do,” Brown said. “We need every guy in the organization in the helmet to be there committed to the cause. He's a special piece. We know what he brings to the team. He's a special individual and I pray we have him there.”

Brown also reflected on playing the first season without Dan Rooney, who died during the off-season.

“His birthday just passed. He would've been 85,” Brown said. “It means everything to me, the organization, the community, the NFL, he was an ambassador to Ireland. Anytime you have a first class owner that treats people fairly, he was always first class with me, anytime you get a person of that special caliber you want to do whatever for him.

“You want to make him happy. I'm just grateful I had an opportunity to share some experience with him, and I hope to make him proud this year.”

Players report to training camp in Latrobe on July 27.
