A Monongahela man is recuperating after police found him shot in his home while a fire burned in the basement on Saturday afternoon.

Charles Sleith, 50, was found after firefighters responded to a call for a house fire at 1:15 p.m., state police said.

The fire in the basement was quickly contained, and Sleith was found on the second floor with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He underwent surgery at UPMC Mercy and is expected to be OK, Sleith's sister said.
A dog was also found shot in the incident, but its status was not immediately clear.
