Body found inside burning car in Rankin

RANKIN, Pa. — Allegheny County police are investigating after the body of a man was found inside a burning car in Rankin Tuesday.

The Rankin Fire Department got a report of a car on fire at the intersection of Fleet Street and Pattison Avenue around 6:55 p.m.

After firefighters doused the flames, they found the body of a young man inside a sedan.   Investigators said they are unable to identify the man.

Allegheny County homicide detectives believe the vehicle had been parked in the same location since 1:45 p.m.

Channel 11 talked with a neighbor who saw the car parked in the spot hours before the fire.

"But the second time I  seen the car there, I was thinking maybe they picked him (the driver) up, maybe his car was broken or something," Dom Scuila said.

The fire marshal will continue to investigate the cause of the fire. The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy today.

Anyone with information about the fire should call Allegheny County police.

There is no identification of the victim yet.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal and Allegheny County Homicide are assisting with the case.
