Butler Twp. police track down suspect after he escapes from custody

For about two hours today, only Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz was following the search for a man who had already been handcuffed when he took off from a constable and a probation officer in Butler Township.

David Bemben was still wearing the handcuffs he was arrested in.

Officials say it should have been easy. Bemben wanted on minor violations, such as not showing for court and abandoning a vehicle. When they got to an apartment on Bessemer Avenue on Tuesday morning, they found him hiding in the attic.

The apartment owner invited Channel 11 in to see for ourselves.

Bemben was cuffed and on his way to jail. The probation officer and constable had Bemben in custody coming down the steps when he made a break for it.

Channel 11 stayed with police every step of the way for two hours as they searched nearby woods for Bemben, eventually tracking him down.

“I live right next door,” said Todd Volk. “This is crazy; I have little kids.”
