Couple rescued from burning Neville Island home

NEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — First responders rescued a couple from their burning home on Neville Island early Monday morning.

Emergency dispatchers tell Channel 11 flames broke out just after 5 a.m. at a home in the 7200 block of Front River Road in Neville Township.

The fire chief told Channel 11 he believes the fire started in the garage, then spread to the second floor.

The chief said the couple who lived there made it out safely, but the house is a total loss.

"We immediately did an attack on exterior in the back, knocked down a little bit and we got inside and started on the inside,” said Neville Island Fire Chief Michael Thomas.

Neighbors tell Channel 11 smoke surrounded the home, and then they began hearing explosions and the home went up in flames.

Bichri Lee lives next door and saw the flames.

"I saw a lot of smoke, so we knew the fire was coming out, and I didn't see the flames until after we got out,” Lee said.

He not only saw the fire, but heard screams for help coming from the back deck.

They were coming from the man who lived there.

"I just heard some screaming, and I looked outside and it looked like the neighbor was stuck on the balcony coming out of the back of his house, and he had someone else helping him and he was calling for a ladder, and they were getting him out,” Lee said.

But, fire crews worried the fire would spread next door to Lee's house, so they decided to evacuate them.

"I guess the first thing you think is what if we catch real quick what happens with my dogs and everything.I didn't know how to get everyone out, so it was kind of a rush there for a little bit,” Lee said.

The fire didn’t spread, and no one was hurt.

"That's the main thing, that everyone got out safe and nobody got hurt on the scene, so we are in pretty good shape,” said Thomas.
