Mercer Co. district attorney faces 17 criminal charges

MERCER — The Mercer County district attorney is facing more than a dozen charges.

He's accused of preventing the prosecution of the woman he had a relationship with.

Mercer County District Attorney Miles Karson read a statement out loud Friday afternoon, that said in part it would be inappropriate for him to comment.

His attorney did most of the talking and stressed the truth will come out soon.

TRENDING NOW:

"Just because someone makes an accusation, but in America, you're innocent until proven guilty," defense attorney Al Lindsay said.

"I assure you that I've committed no offense and I'm anxious to fight the allegations made," Karson said.

They both stressed the criminal charges against Karson, which include breaching his duties, obstructing justice and preventing the prosecution of his alleged girlfriend are false.

Lindsay said Karson is a fantastic public servant who is dedicated to his community.

Back in March, a grand jury launched the investigation into Karson's alleged wrongdoings.

Those include protecting his alleged girlfriend Tonya Bulboff when she was charged with stealing $30,000 from her employer, preventing her arrests during suspected drunken driving incidents and telling police to not worry about an alleged domestic dispute between them at a home.

Lindsay says the public will have to wait and see what happens, but the truth will surface.

"I want these people to know that these charges, in our opinion, are defensible, we intend to defend them," Lindsay said.

Karson plans to continue on the job because he wants the truth to play out in court.

And he said Friday it will, during his preliminary hearing in December.
