Seneca Valley Middle School students will soon become Ryan Gloyer Middle School students, and the district is happy to see the change.

"We put countless hours in, anytime we could," said Nate Konieczka, one of four students who approached district officials about renaming the school after Sgt. 1st Class Gloyer, who was killed in battle in Afghanistan in 2016. The district has already done a lot to honor the Green Beret and Seneca Valley graduate, from lengthy posts in school newsletters to dedicating a game ball in September.

"They were here for Ryan, to honor his service, his sacrifice, to ensure his legacy would go on," said Dick Gloyer, Ryan's father.

The vote to rename the school was unanimous.

There are plans to also create a lasting tribute that will teach students about his life and sacrifices he made for his country.
