PITTSBURGH — A new Pittsburgh police substation will officially open Monday downtown.
Police will be available during regular business hours inside the substation at Liberty Avenue and Market Street. A call box with a blue light can be used at any time of day in case of an emergency.
The space was first used Friday during the city’s Light Up Night celebration, but it was not yet open to the public.

City council approved the substation in October. The approval came after several incidents downtown, including the shooting of a 17-year-old at the Wood Street T Station and a Fourth of July shooting in Market Square that injured four teenagers.
