Volunteers of Animal Friends and other rescue groups will pick up the dogs and puppies at the Allegheny County Airport and transport them back to their facility the Animal Friends facility.  Animal Friends has partnered with Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue to bring the dogs to Pittsburgh.

18 dogs and puppies arrive at Animal Friends, they will be examined. All animals that are cleared could be put up for adoption in the next few days.

Originally, Animal friends was supposed to get 40 dogs, but some of the dogs did not have proper health certificates to cross state lines, according to Animal Friends spokesperson Shannon Tremblay.

The dogs are from the San Antonio Humane Society and were available for adoption before the flooding took place.  Bringing the dogs to Pittsburgh will allow shelters in Texas to focus on reuniting families with their displaced animals.

If you are interested in adopting, check out ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org for more information.

If you are unable to adopt, Animal Friends asks you to consider making a donation to support the cost of caring for the animals brought here from Texas.
