Driver accused of hitting jogger will head to trial

Only Channel 11 was there Friday as the man accused of hitting a teenage jogger walked out of court.

Michael Mesecke looked a lot different from his mug shot taken last month after police say he hit the jogger in Cranberry and took off.

Kevin Flaherty, Mesecke’s defense attorney, told Channel 11 his client accepts responsibility and is glad no one was seriously injured.

Mesecke had nothing to say to Channel 11 as he walked out of court after a judge held his case for trial.

Cranberry police say Mesecke admitted he was driving along Haine School Road on Sept. 28 and before he got behind the wheel he had been drinking.

He told officers that he has no recollection of hitting a 19-year-old woman jogging along the road and that's why he didn't stop. When police found his car, it had passenger side damage.

"We’re just grateful that the young lady in this case was not seriously hurt,” Flaherty said. “I'm also grateful that my client was not hurt and we’re accepting responsibility and we’re moving on and seeing what we can do.”

Channel 11 is told the jogger will make a full recovery.
