Driver charged in crash, fire that killed gas station worker

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. — A gas station employee was killed after a car crashed into a gas pump at a gas station, causing the building to catch fire, according to police.

The incident happened at Pike's Top Tier Fuel around 1:30 p.m. in the Home community in Indiana County.

Police said a car with two men inside was traveling north on State Route 119, approaching the intersection of State Route 85. The car then went off the road, jumped a curb surrounding the gas station's parking lot and crashed into one of the gas pumps.

Melissa Myers, 52, was found dead inside the building. Myers was an employee.

One of the men in the car, James Eugene Brown, 33, was arrested at the scene and the other man, Michael White, 32, was arrested after fleeing on foot, police said.

Police said Brown was the driver of the vehicle. He did not have a license and was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

According to police, the driver told troopers he had smoked pot, bought and used heroin.

He is charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, drivers required to be licensed and more.

White was released from police custody and will not face any charges.

Police are still investigating.
