PITTSBURGH — Two students dropped a vial containing a potentially dangerous chemical in a Pitt science building Thursday morning, prompting a response by a hazmat team.
The students dropped a 5-milliliter vial of a cyanide derivative compound around 10:15 a.m. Thursday on the 11th floor of the Chevron Science Building. The compound presents an inhalation hazard.

The 11th and 10th floors of the building were briefly evacuated, but everyone returned to the building before 11 a.m., officials said.
A university spokesperson said the spill has been contained and cleaned up.
The two students were checked out by paramedics.
