Efforts continue to get PPE to Pennsylvanians that need it most

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf Monday highlighted efforts to make sure everyone in Pennsylvania has the personal protective equipment they need six months after the first cases of COVID-19.

Early on in the pandemic, a number of efforts got underway to help get the critical supply of PPE to the people who needed it most.

Among the actions taken was an order signed by Wolf in April to provide critical aid to hospitals with targeted PPE and supplies distribution.

A number of portals were set up for people and businesses that brought PPE to individuals, corporations, community organizations and medical suppliers that needed it. Those include the Critical Donations Portal, Critical Medical Supplies Procurement Portal and the Manufacturing Call to Action Portal.

“In the early days of the pandemic, this administration took numerous steps to secure sources of PPE to ensure that Pennsylvanians were protected and that our health system was not overwhelmed,” Wolf said in a news release. “Our proactive and ongoing efforts to secure PPE, coupled with the flexibility and ingenuity displayed by Pennsylvania’s business community, helped us secure and allocate PPE. Because of the steps we took, our hospitals were not overburdened, and our medical system was not strained.”

Eligible organizations that are experiencing or may experience a shortage of respirators are being connected with the Battelle Critical Care Decontamination System, which provides free decontamination services for reusable N95 respirators during the pandemic.
