Family of man killed on South Side Slopes pleading for answers

PITTSBURGH — Police are searching for a killer after a man was found shot to death near a park on Pittsburgh's South Side. The victim's family is now urging someone to come forward.

“If somebody out there knows what happened, seen what happened, heard something, anything, you can do to help us find whoever did this would be greatly appreciated,” said Dave Scheller, a spokesperson for the family of the shooting victim, Shawn Brandon Jr.

Investigators have yet to make an arrest or identify a suspect. According to police, Brandon, 22, was already a father and had another child on the way.

Detectives were called to the intersection of Marengo and Eccles streets just before 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Brandon was shot once near a community playground.

"Shawn Brandon was a good kid, young kid," Scheller said. "Everybody has their little problems, but he was really straightening his life out."

Family members told Channel 11 they don't know why Brandon was shot, or by whom, but they are heartbroken, especially his mother.

"We're doing the best we can being there for her, whatever she needs," Scheller said. "If somebody out there knows what happened, seen what happened, anything you can do to help us find whoever did this, would be greatly appreciated."

Investigators have not revealed if Brandon was targeted.
