Family with ill child asks for help identifying driver in crash

At just four years old, Cohen Muhl has had a brain tumor, gone completely blind in one eye and battled a slew of medical problems.

"He has Addison's Disease, diabetes insipidus, hypopituitarism, hyperthyroidism,” said his mother, Kyla.

Kyla and the rest of the family sell cupcakes to help pay for Cohen's medical bills. They are already stretched financially.

And then, last Friday, another blow.

"We're really not a family that was in a position to have any other problems,” she said.

TRENDING NOW:

Muhl's husband, Jason, was heading to work when a car pulled out in front of him at the Northgate High School entrance.

"He had to slam his brakes on to try to avoid the car and basically when he did that it was also raining and he lost control and ended up hitting multiple things,” Muhl said. "He actually ended up crossing into oncoming traffic and going and hitting the side of a telephone pole. I mean, the car was demolished."

The driver who pulled out didn't stop, but several witnesses did and called medics who took Jason to the hospital.

Channel 11 discovered Thursday that police pulled surveillance video from the school and nearby businesses as they investigate.

Muhl said she's hopeful the driver will come forward.

“We understand that accidents happen,” she said. “We've all had accidents – some of us have been at fault, some of us haven't, but we're supposed to own up to them."
