The father of the man suspected of killing a New Kensington police officer was taken into custody early Wednesday morning.
Police had issued a warrant Tuesday for Gregory Baucum Jr. He turned himself in around midnight at a shelter in downtown Pittsburgh.
Baucum was wanted for strangulation and aggravated assault.
According to a criminal complaint, he attacked a woman during two separate incidents at a home on Victoria Avenue in New Kensington.

Baucum grabbed the 27-year-old woman’s neck and twisted it during one of the incidents. The second time, he squeezed her nose and mouth so she couldn’t breathe, the complaint said.
Sources tell Channel 11’s Rick Earle that Baucum will also face witness intimidation charges. The charges may be connected to the investigation into Officer Brian Shaw’s death, sources said.

It’s unclear what the woman’s connection is to the murder case involving Rahmael Holt, but she lived in the same home where two women were taken into custody Tuesday and charged with hindering the apprehension of Holt.
Police said Lakita Cain and Taylor Mitchell denied seeing Holt on Friday night after the shooting, but later admitted that he came to the home, stashed a gun in the basement and said he had to get out of town.

The women told police another relative came to the home and later removed the gun, which still has not been recovered.
Holt's mother, Sherry Holt, was also arrested Tuesday, along with seven other family members. They were charged with hindering apprehension.
Holt was arrested early Tuesday morning in Hazelwood, where police said he had been hiding out with his cousins.
After Holt eluded police for days, U.S. marshals captured him and used Shaw's handcuffs on him when they took him into custody.
